Unplug and Unwind at REC 225
I’m sitting here, writing on my laptop, checking messages on my phone and watching my robot vacuum trace random patterns across my floor, while my smart TV scrolls through a random assortment of nature photography procured by some algorithm, and I’m thinking: this is a strange life.
I’m also thinking: you’ve missed that spot six times now Rosie (my vacuum’s name). Are you doing this on purpose? But I don’t say that out loud for the same reason I always say please and thank you to Alexa and Siri. Because when the robot uprising happens, I want them to remember how kind I was to them, and how I treated them with respect so they will spare me and my family. I’m just joking around. Of course, they’re not sentient beings planning our imminent demise! (Haha, they’re watching! Just smile like everything’s normal!)
But seriously, we are surrounded by technology! It’s everywhere and involved in so much of what we do! And that’s not a bad thing. Especially these days!
But be that as it may, we all know how relaxing and rejuvenating it is to set aside our technology, so wouldn’t it be nice to, I don’t know, unplug? (She said to the audience currently plugged in and reading this through a tech platform.)
Unplug and Unwind
That is exactly what you can do at REC 225 located in the heart of Cocoa Village, Florida.
Open daily from 11 am to 2 am (the latest in the village!), and family-friendly until 8 pm, the atmosphere of REC 225 is designed to draw you in so that you can be fully present and engaged with not only your surroundings but the people with you! What an idea! The team at REC 225 has created an experience that brings you the best of a classic game night paired with great food and drinks. When you are there, you won’t even be thinking about your phone, because as long as you’re eating and drinking, you play for free!
They have a selection of over 15 classic table-top games like Connect 4, Yahtzee, and Battleship. If that’s not your vibe, they’ve got you covered with pool, darts, cornhole, shuffleboard, and the list goes on.
And if you happen to be in the Village on a Tuesday night, head on in for their Tuesday Trivia at 8 pm where first, second, and third place winners take home cash prizes!
But in order to play, you must partake! And let me tell you, it is not a chore!
They have craft beer by the bottle and the glass, signature cocktails that are as fun to look at as they are to drink, and a menu that is, what I would call, classic with a twist. Let’s start at the beginning:
Drinks
Doctors Orders, Pineapples to Apples
Now, this is Florida, so I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend something tropical. You can’t go wrong with the Mr. Grapefruit: Deep Eddy Grapefruit, lime juice, and orange juice. It is just the right combination of sweet and tart. But, if grapefruit isn’t your thing, give the Doctor’s Orders a try: Bulleit Bourbon, orange bitters, and cherry juice. Yum.
Appetizers
Ya’ll, if I didn’t mention this there would be something wrong with me. (If you eat vegan or kosher, feel free to skip ahead!) REC 225 has an appetizer that is bacon. Um…yes! Bacon! The Sweet and Spicy Bacon Shareable. I mean, just order it. Applewood bacon, spicy honey and cracked black pepper.
Lunch or Dinner
For lunch or dinner, you can’t go wrong with the 225. There are fries in the sandwich! It’s wonderful. Or if you’re feeling creative or inspired, you can build your own sandwich with any combination of over 25 ingredients! They also have salads and wraps if you’re looking for something on the lighter side.
Sweets
You can’t go wrong with a Fluffernutter. I mean, I can because I’m allergic to peanuts and, you know, death by fluffernutter is not how I see things going down for me, but trust me, from what I hear around me, fluffernutters are legit! I myself am going to get the Nutella S’more Sandwich. I don’t even need to explain that choice. It’s pretty self-evident.
