How to Spend the Day in Historic Downtown Melbourne
One of the things I love about traveling is finding all the little historic walking bits. You know what I mean. Park your car and spend the day exploring all the funky, unique shops, museums, restaurants, etc that you can only find in this one place. Let me tell you, Historic Downtown Melbourne does not disappoint!
Below are a few of the places we’ve checked out and absolutely loved! I’ll update this post as we explore more, so keep looking back!
Escape Room Entertainment
I’m not gonna lie, I freaking love escape rooms! If you’ve never heard of or attempted an escape room, I highly recommend it. The theming, the puzzles, riddles…I just love it all.
Escape Room Entertainment in Downtown Melbourne (Click here for directions) has four rooms for you to choose from ranging in difficulty and family friendliness. We were lucky enough to experience The Society. Group size: up to 10. Difficulty 4/5. Escape Rate 65%. (Yes, we escaped!)
The Melbourne Biergarten
If you are looking for authentic German cuisine, then look no further than the Melbourne Biergarten (Click here for directions)! Their menu is filled with some of the best schnitzel’s and wursts this side of the pond. And it wouldn’t be a biergarten without the bier! They have a rotating selection on tap and well over a dozen German beers to choose from. Can’t decide? Get a flight! And don’t miss out on happy hour weekdays 3-6pm.
Lumber Jack’s Axe House
Sometimes you just gotta throw an axe, you know? At Lumber Jack’s Axe House, (Click here for directions) there are axeperts ready, waiting, and excited to get you throwing! I can guarantee you will have a good time, and that you will stick that axe at least once, although if the axeperts have anything to say about it, it’ll be a lot more than just once! Check out their website and reserve your spot!
This Little Light of Mine
When I was a teenager, there was this store in the mall where you could create your own scent and make shower gels, hand soaps, and lotions. It was so much fun and an amazing gift! (I can’t tell you how many people got this from me!) Then one day, they went out of business and were just…gone. (Cue sadness)
When I discovered This Little Light of Mine (Click here for directions), I nearly flipped out! Here in the heart of Downtown Melbourne is a little shop filled with beautiful things to purchase from local vendors, AND you can make your own candle! Mix and match your scents to create something that is uniquely you! I absolutely love mine! it smells like you’re sitting by the fireplace in a library filled with old books.
Let’s Plant It
Aside from being a super amazing plant store, Let’s Plant (Click here for directions) It is a full-on experience! Potting benches line the center of this picturesque shop where you can plant your own terrarium with their expert help! Yes please! I’m loving mine and I’m also super surprised that I’ve been able to keep it alive! I let them know from the start that my thumb is not the greenest, and they gave me all sorts of tips and tricks and told me the absolute best plants for me to choose. They even have a party room in the back so you can make a girls night out of it!
Auryn Naturals
Have you ever entered a shop and thought. Yep. This is where I live now. Auryn Naturals (Click here for directions) is that shop. Their carefully curated selection somehow completely resonates on my wavelength! So, I guess I’m a hippie now? Everything from the jewelry, accessories, home decor, knickknacks, plants, it’s just outstanding. I bought myself a solid perfume and every time I wear it, it just makes me happy! Stop in, say hey, feel the vibes, and pick up something for you and your best friend!
Backwater
I love food. And more than that, I love locally exclusive food! That’s a super weird way to say it, but I think you know what I mean. Backwater (Click here for directions) is one of those places that is unique and wonderful and you can’t find it anywhere else! (except their other location a few miles away, but…) Their menu is chocked full of excellent options! (I’ve never had a bad meal!) With breakfast served all day, griddle tables where you can make your own pancakes, and things like shaved ribeye and gator gumbo…you can’t go wrong!
So What’s Next?
