7 Free Things To Do In Cocoa Beach
So you’re on vacation and everything is so expensive, am I right? Wrong! Trick question! (I really thought you’d get that one, because I kind of gave it away in the title up there.) There are so many fun things to do that don’t cost a single penny and here’s a list of 7 free things to do in Cocoa Beach to prove it!
1 | Go To The Beach |
This one is pretty obvious, so I thought we could get it out of the way! A day at the beach is amazing and beautiful and 100% free. Take yourself, your family, your friends, a couple towels and loads of sunscreen and splash, play, walk. people watch (a personal favorite!), swim, surf if you’re so inclined. You are in Cocoa Beach. A trip to the beach is an absolute must! And if you vacay with your pooch, they have you covered! There’s a public dog park!
2 | Watch a Rocket Launch |
As a Space Coast local, I can tell you that rocket launches are awesome! I never get tired of watching them and when Space X lands their First Stage booster back on Landing Zone 1, we’re talking some serious sci-fi Buck Roger’s level stuff here! It’s history in the making people! The best part is that it’s absolutely free to watch these babies launch! Check the latest launch schedules and head on outside! The beach is a great place to watch, and the further north you go, the better the view! My personal favorite is Jetty Park (caveat…there is a $15 daily admission fee for Jetty Park, but the beaches and views are great!)
3 | Take A Photo Tour! |
A picture is worth a thousand words and doesn’t take as long to create! Cocoa Beach is in no short supply of Instagram worthy spots where you can capture the perfect memories to remember your trip. A few spots to keep in mind? The Kelly Slater Surfer Statue, Butterfly Mural, the walkway at Lori Wilson Park... We’ll scope out some more and update this list soon!
4 | The Iconic Ron Jon’s Surf Shop |
So, there’s an epic photo spot outside of Ron Jon’s, but this place is deserving of it’s own mention. You absolutely cannot visit Cocoa Beach and not set foot inside Ron Jon’s Surf Shop. A visit here is an absolute must and it made its way onto this list because visiting the store is absolutely free! Whether or not you make a purchase is entirely up to you!
5 | The Florida Surf Museum |
The Florida Surf Museum captures the rich history history of east coast surfing. It has exhibits highlighting the people, places, boards, and culture that have made this exciting sport what it is today! And the best part? It’s totally free! (Although we do recommend making a donation if you can to keep the legacy going!)
6 | The Brevard Veterans Memorial Center |
On the topic museums, The Brevard Veterans Memorial Center and Museum is definitely worth a visit. This 82-acre park has walking trails, a playground, pavilions, a fishing pier, three ponds, and a canoe launch ramp with access to Sykes Creek! (If you want, you can rent paddle boards or kayaks!) Then you can check out the museum that has an amazing array of military artifacts ranging from the Revolutionary War to today. While it’s not exactly in Cocoa Beach, it’s just across the river on Merritt Island. Admission is always free.
7 | The Cocoa Beach Pier |
The world-famous Cocoa Beach Pier is filled with beautiful views, photo spots, shopping (window and the type that costs $), and dining and if you haven’t been yet, you need to go!
Almost Free Bonus:
8 | Ride The Beach Trolly |
The Beach Trolly is a cost effective way to explore the Cocoa Beach area without worrying about having to find and pay for the perfect parking space! The trolley service runs Monday through Saturday from 6:00am to 11:00pm and on Sunday from 7:45am to 5:40pm from Port Canaveral to 13th Street in Cocoa Beach. A ride on the trolley costs $1.50 with a special rate of 75¢ for seniors, veterans, disabled and students, and there is no charge for children under 5! But make sure you have exact change, because the drivers can’t make change!
